For over two decades, I had the privilege of practicing family medicine in Vernon, caring for local families. Driven by a desire to give back to the community that raised our children, I ran for mayor in 2011 to champion progressive programs and long-term planning. I am incredibly proud of what we achieved. During my time as mayor, our council shifted away from ad-hoc decisions and established a dedicated infrastructure levy. This multi-year asset plan successfully rebuilt Vernon’s roads, sidewalks, sewer mains, parks, and public buildings – a vital program that subsequent councils wisely chose to continue. We also commissioned an external audit of city services to ensure our budget decisions were factual, transparent, and structurally sound, while working diligently to repair and strengthen relations with our community neighbours.

My approach to municipal spending is shaped by my upbringing.
Fiscal Responsibility
Raised by a single mother in a family of seven in Northern Saskatchewan, we had very little. I learned the value of a dollar early, developing strict fiscal discipline while financing my own way through medical school.
Later, I applied these practical life skills to successfully managing large medical practices, complex staffing, and ultimately, the City of Vernon’s multimillion-dollar budget.
Committed Local Leadership
My commitment to public service extends across decades of professional and community leadership, both in Vernon and nationally.
I have had the honour of serving as president or chairing boards for numerous organizations, including Ribbons of Green Trails Society, Okanagan Landing & District Community Association, Vernon Senior Curling, Turning Points Collaborative Society, the Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts of Canada.

I offer our community the skills of an experienced listener and a proven communicator.
I know how to navigate complex civic problems, leverage expert data, and advocate fiercely to provincial and federal officials for the funding and resources Vernon deserves.

In my time in local government, I learned that our residents contribute to this city in countless beautiful ways.
